So you know how backup cameras are now mandatory?

Yeah, I’m not going to stop impulsively looking over my shoulder. At least that’s what I do when I drive my dad’s Fit.

That's what you're supposed to do anyway. You shouldn't be moving backwards unless you're looking backwards, and through the camera doesn't count.

I don’t need a stinkin’ back up camera. That’s what my rearview mirror is for. However, it is very convenient for cars that are naturally low and/or low-slung — a buddy of mine bought one for his Z32 and he feels much more comfortable reversing now.

Yeah, I never turn around when I’m backing up. I have properly adjusted mirrors.

Luckily both my cars don’t have backup cameras :) The Focus has a camera though it’s kind of necessary since rear visibility is horrible.

You get way better spacial and positional awareness looking over the shoulder. You should be doing that unless you’re in a panel van or something. Camera is just an aid for clearing the spot below the window and for final placement.

True, I guess.

I do a look around then use the camera. Reward visibility sucks in most cars nowadays, I honestly trust the wide angle camera more then huge ass blind spots. On my m3 visibility is great, so I just aim for pedestrians while backing up because why the hell are they using my road.

I was always taught to not rely solely on your mirrors, that you should always look over both shoulders while reversing as your primary means of data collection and only use the mirrors for minor corrections.

THIS.

I drive a car with a quasi-fastback roofline (before you get excited: 2006 Elantra GT hatch , nothing exotic) and the visibility below the rear window is practically non-existent. I err toward caution and often find myself with a three foot gap between my car’s tail and what’s behind it.

A reversing camera would let me safely make it a couple of feet closer.
